You are a resident year 2 doctor working in the GP Surgery. Mr Sarah Jones, a 23-year-old lady presents with her son, Alex Jones who is 3-years-old, with a complaint of rash over his face for 2 weeks. 

  1. Take a focused patient's history. 

  2. At 7 minutes, the examiner will stop you to ask you some questions.

EXAMINER INSTRUCTIONS

Timing Instructions: At 7 minutes, stop the candidate and ask the following questions:

  • Answer 1: Impetigo

  • Answer 2:

    • Wash your hands with soap and water if you touch the lesion immediately

    • Avoid kissing on the mouth and lips

    • Avoid physical contact on the lesion

    • Advice to let the rash heal/ crust first before allowed physical contact (2 to 3 weeks)

    Size: Multiple “Bubble-like” rashes no bigger than 4mm

    Surface: N/A - Mother avoided touching

    Temperature: Normal

    • Otherwise, NO headache, chest pain, palpitations, shortness of breath

    • NO vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain.
